A’s – Giants  Show How Manager Can Make THE Difference

I HAD TO QUIT WATCHING THE A’S – GIANTS GAME FRIDAY NIGHT…

I CAME IN LATE AND LEFT EARLY….

I heard the A’s had had six  innings with t he leadoff hitter on base thrueight innings and only scored once.

Then in the eighth inning Geren walked slumping Huff to get to hot-hittingPosey. Lucky , this time Posey made an out.

In the A’s half of the inning coco crisp had two stlen bases. Only problem was that the the batters swung at the pitches, even though Crisp visably hadbig jumps. Barton actually tried to bunt and nearly bopped one up.
A’s failed to score again, despite another leadoff hitter in Crisp.

Then Geren brings in Ziegler, not a classic relief pitcher, for the ninth inning and with two lefties coming up. Ziegler is a right hander  does poorly against lefties, yet Geren picks Ziegler
over right handed relievers. Geren has no planning.
Then, Geren walks weak hitting Huff to get to hot hitting Posey.
Makes no sense again. Not only that doesn’t make sense but you’re putting anextra potential run on base.

Another mistake was taking out their top pitcher, Cahill,  in the sixth inning, after yielding only one hit. Of course, the pinch hitter fails… The way the As score runsI rather keep the hot pitchers going – Cahill had only thrown 83 pitches

A’s   LOSE — JUST IN….GEREN DOES IT AGAIN!

FIGURES…GEREN GAVE THE GAME AWAY TIME AND AGAIN IN THIS ONE. THE A’S
HAD ALL THE MOMENTUM… BETTER PITCHING, MORE HITS AND MEN ON BASE, BY FAR.
AND THERE WERE OTHER POOR CALLS HE MADE EARLY IN THE GAME, even ACCORDING
TO KRUKOW OF THE GIANTS, WHO USUSUALLY ONLY TALKS ABOUT THE GIANTS…

A further mistake was putting in Matsui to pinch hit and then taking him outwhen the Giants changed pitchers, wasting a good veteran hitter capable ofhitting lefties or righties.
A’s   LOSE — JUST IN….GEREN DOES IT AGAIN! At least FIVE MISTAKES THIS NIGHT!
No, the Giants aren’t that good – the A’s have better
FIGURES…GEREN GAVE THE GAME AWAY TIME AND AGAIN IN THIS ONE. THE A’S HAD ALL THE MOMENTUM… BETTER PITCHING, MORE HITS AND MEN ON BASE, BY FAR.AND THERE WERE OTHER POOR CALLS HE MADE EARLY IN THE GAME WHICH I DIDN’T SEE.
ADD INSULT TO INJURY…In the postgae interview, Geren was asked why the As couldn’t do better thanone run when they had leadoff men in six of the first eight innings. His reply was ‘ We didn’t have the opportunities.’  How’s about a littlebunting, a little running..
An then someone asked him about Barton missing a bunt as Crisp had a base stolen. Geren Said Barton told him he was trying to bunt for a base hit!.Since 1) when’s the last time Barton has bunted for a basehit? He’s incapable, as his effort showed.r. It’s one thing to move a guy over, which he couldn’t do, but to but for a base hit? and 2) when is Bartonthe guy who makes such decisions, especially when you have the top basestealer ont he team… you don’t need to waste a bunt.  Why the conservatism?
Now I’m convinced. Geren is a stooge. And if Beane really believes the managerdoesn’t make a difference, well, I didn’t think much of ‘money ball’and now I don’t more than ever if this is whatit’s all about. Buddies Geren and Beane are a couple of strange ducks, Beane highly over-ratedand Geren totally incompetent as a major league manager,  probably the worstin the majors.
Finally, in a recent interview assistan   GM David ‘Billy doesn’t want to talktoday’ Forrestor actually said that the team is satisfied with a .500 recordat least through July! No wonder a talented team like the A’s is three gamesbehind the Giants record, already. Look for another .500 season from the A’sas long as Geren is at the helm. Hire a Bochy, Leyland, Wedge, Hurdle, Showalter-even a LaRussa – or someone like them who is available and watch the A’soinstantly climb out of .500 and go to the playoffs! Easy as that. Good luck. And there’s the very valid thought that maybe management is just waitingout Oakland with a care-less attitude until they can move the team.

Reports have it that Oakland Assistant GM David Forrester said that the team is satisfied with a .500 record for now.  With an attidude like that the A’s will continue to play to these expectations, while their counterparts, the Giants could go on to another World Series with a team really no better than the A’s.
